How The Way Changes

Before adding an important principle to The Way, ask:

  1. Does this respect individual freedom?
  2. Does it unnecessarily force a belief or lifestyle?
  3. Does it respect other people’s dignity?
  4. Could it be used to justify coercion?
  5. Could it unnecessarily harm people?
  6. Does it consider nature and future generations?
  7. Does it leave room for uncertainty?
  8. Can people question it?
  9. Can people leave it?
  10. Could a better idea replace it in the future?

If an idea fails these questions, it deserves serious reconsideration.

The Way should always remain:

Voluntary

No one owes The Way their belief, membership, agreement, or participation.

Non-exclusive

Following The Way does not require rejecting another religion, philosophy, culture, or tradition.

Non-coercive

No forced belief, conversion, conformity, worship, or participation.

Individual

Every person retains the right to develop their own worldview.

Responsible

Freedom exists alongside consideration for other people, animals, nature, and society.

Separate from government

The Way is not a government or legal system.

Open to criticism

Questioning The Way is permitted.

Capable of change

The Way can evolve.

Free from founder worship

The founder has no special ownership over another person’s conscience.
