Let The Way Evolve

Principle 10 of 10

PRINCIPLE 10 OF 10

The Way itself is not above questioning. Its founder is not above questioning. Its writings are not above questioning. Its followers are not above questioning. If humanity discovers a better understanding or a better way to live, The Way should be willing to learn from it. You may follow it. You may disagree with it. You may change it. You may leave it. You may never follow it. All of these choices are compatible with its fundamental principle. The Way exists for people. People do not exist for The Way.

The explanation

The Way itself is not above questioning. Its founder is not above questioning. Its writings are not above questioning. Its followers are not above questioning. If humanity discovers a better understanding, a better practice, or a better way to coexist, The Way should be willing to learn from it. A person may follow it. A person may disagree with it. A person may change it. A person may leave it. A person may never follow it at all. The Way exists for people. People do not exist for The Way.

In the Master Philosophy

The Way is not sacred simply because I created it. I can be wrong. The Way can be incomplete. Future knowledge may change how its ideas are understood. Future generations may improve it. Some ideas may become unnecessary. Some may be replaced. Some may be rejected entirely. No founder, follower, book, version, tradition, or interpretation should be permanently beyond questioning. If someone discovers a better way of understanding life, that idea should be allowed to be heard. The Way must remain open to improvement.

How to read it

Practical interpretation

  • The document, its wording, and its founder stay open to criticism and revision.
  • A better idea should be able to replace a weaker one.

What this does not mean

  • It does not mean the philosophy can be twisted into coercion while keeping its name. Freedom of conscience, voluntary participation, and the right to leave are the safeguards that evolution must not undo.
